Hatha
Hatha is an old system that includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises). It helps bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation. Try a hatha class if the idea of gentle yoga appeals to you or seems right for your body. It can be a great introduction to yoga, but shouldn’t be mistaken for easy yoga since it can still be challenging, both physically and mentally. Hatha classes provide an opportunity to stretch, unwind, and release tension.
Prana
Taught by our teacher Rose, this yoga is focused on rebalancing the subtle energy channels of our body. Rose will warm up the body with a few rounds of Sun Salutations Surya Namaskar and then teach specific poses, adjusting everyone. Her practice derives from Iyengar so has strong alignment focus.
Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa Flow yoga is a creative sequence of successive movements and poses with an emphasis on the breath. Each class will be different and unique and will concentrate on breathwork (pranayama), meditation and physical exercise.
Yin
Yin yoga is a quiet and simple practice, but not necessarily an easy practice. Through the slow rhythm of a yin class, the instructor will take you from pose to pose providing release, mental clarity, and openness of the heart. The idea is to target the deepest connective tissues of the body, the fascia. Yin yoga improves the energy flow, the chi in Chinese medicine, rebalancing our nervous system and its influence on our organs.
Afrofusion Dance
Join Abikwale and learn how to move like a Mswahili! This course is designed for all level from beginners to more advanced dancers. You will learn a fun choreography especially created by your teacher for the class and dance on a Afrobeats song. It is a very enjoyable and easy way to move and exercise your body while having a lot of fun.
Silent Walk
Start the day with full awareness and inspiration; brought to us by all that surrounds us!
Silent walks are done in small groups at early morning in Stone Town. Walking in silence in a group makes us more aware that we are not focusing on our interaction with others. Instead, it brings our focus to ourselves, to what’s here and now. During the walk we slow down. We walk in a much slower pace than normally; to shift our focus to the present moment. This mindfulness exercise stimulates the awareness of what is actually surrounding us. Every walk has a different route and a different focus, each with the aim to relax, reduce stress, discover new insights and bring inspiration.
